الْعَالِمُ الَّذِي لَا يَمَلُّ مِنْ تَعَلُّمِ الْعِلْمِ
The scholar is a person who does not get weary of gaining knowledge

الْعَالِمُ مَنْ لَا يَشْبَعُ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ وَلَا يَتَشَبَّعُ بِهِ
The scholar is one who is not satisfied with [his] knowledge nor does he allow himself to be satiated by it

النَّاسُ ثَلَاثَةٌ فَعَالِمٌ رَبَّانِيٌّ وَمُتَعَلِّمٌ عَلَى سَبِيلِ نَجَاةٍ وَهَمَجٌ رَعَاعٌ أَتْبَاعُ كُلِّ نَاعِقٍ لَمْ يَسْتَضِيئُوا بِنُورِ الْعِلْمِ وَلَمْ يَلْجَئُوا إِلَى رُكْنٍ وَثِيقٍ
People are of three types: the godly scholar, the student who is on the path of salvation and the uncultivated rabble who run after every caller, neither seeking light from the effulgence of knowledge nor taking recourse to any strong support

اطْلُبِ الْعِلْمَ تَزْدَدْ عِلْماً
Seek knowledge and you will increase in knowledge

اقْتَنِ الْعِلْمَ فَإِنَّكَ إِنْ كُنْتَ غَنِيّاً زَانَكَ وَإِنْ كُنْتَ فَقِيراً مَانَكَ
Acquire knowledge, for indeed if you are wealthy it will adorn you and if you are poor it will provide for you (or guard you)

امْتَاحُوا مِنْ صَفْوِ عَيْنٍ قَدْ رُوِّقَتْ مِنَ الْكَدَرِ
Draw water from the clear spring which has been cleansed of all impurity

أَلَا لَا يَسْتَحْيِيَنَّ مَنْ لَا يَعْلَمُ أَنْ يَتَعَلَّمَ فَإِنَّ قِيمَةَ كُلِّ امْرِئٍ مَا يَعْلَمُ
Indeed, the one who does not know should never be ashamed to learn, for the value of every person is [measured by] what he knows

أَعْلَمُ النَّاسِ الْمُسْتَهْتَرُ بِالْعِلْمِ [أَعْمَى النَّاسِ الْعَالِمُ الْمُسْتَهْتَرُ بِالْعِلْمِ]
The most learned person is the one who is most infatuated with knowledge

إِنَّمَا النَّاسُ عَالِمٌ وَمُتَعَلِّمٌ وَمَا سِوَاهُمَا فَهَمَجٌ
Verily people are only either scholars or seekers of knowledge, all others are rabble

إِذَا لَمْ تَكُنْ عَالِماً نَاطِقاً فَكُنْ مُسْتَمِعاً وَاعِياً
If you are not an articulating scholar then be an attentive listener

إِذَا سَمِعْتُمُ الْعِلْمَ فَأَلِطُّوا [فَاكْظِمُوا] عَلَيْهِ فَلَا تَشُوبُوهُ بِهَزْلٍ فَتَمُجَّهُ الْقُلُوبُ
When you hear knowledge then treat it seriously and do not taint it with jesting, thereby making the hearts spit it out

بِالتَّعَلُّمِ يُنَالُ الْعِلْمُ
Through education, knowledge is gained

تَعَلَّمْ تَعْلَمْ وَتَكَرَّمْ تُكْرَمْ
Learn and you will become knowledgeable, honour and you will be honoured

تَعَلَّمِ الْعِلْمَ فَإِنَّكَ إِنْ كُنْتَ غَنِيّاً زَانَكَ وَإِنْ كُنْتَ فَقِيراً مَانَكَ

عَلَى الْعَالِمِ أَنْ يَتَعَلَّمَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ وَيُعَلِّمَ النَّاسَ مَا قَدْ عَلِمَ
It is upon the scholar to learn that which he does not know and to teach the people what he has learnt

قَطَعَ الْعِلْمُ عُذْرَ الْمُتَعَلِّلِينَ
All knowledge that is not supported by the intellect is misguidance

لِطَالِبِ الْعِلْمِ عِزُّ الدُّنْيَا وَفَوْزُ الْآخِرَةِ
Knowledge will never bear fruit until it is accompanied by forbearance

لَيْسَ الْخَيْرَ أَنْ يَكْثُرَ مَالُكَ وَوُلْدُكَ إِنَّمَا الْخَيْرُ أَنْ يَكْثُرَ عِلْمُكَ وَيَعْظُمَ حِلْمُكَ
Goodness is not in having more wealth and children, rather goodness is only in possessing more knowledge and greater forbearance

مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ عَلِمَ
One who learns becomes knowledgeable

مَنْ تَفَهَّمَ فَهِمَ
One who tries to understand, understands

مَنْ فَهِمَ عَلِمَ غَوْرَ الْعِلْمِ
One who understands learns the depth of knowledge

مَنْ لَمْ يَتَعَلَّمْ لَمْ يَعْلَمْ
One who does not learn does not become knowledgeable

عَلَى الْمُتَعَلِّمِ أَنْ يَدْأَبَ نَفْسَهُ فِي طَلَبِ الْعِلْمِ وَلَا يَمَلَّ مِنْ تَعَلُّمِهِ وَلَا يَسْتَكْثِرَ مَا عَلِمَ
The student must discipline himself in his quest for knowledge and must neither become bored of his studies nor overestimate what he already knows

مَنْ كَلِفَ بِالْعِلْمِ فَقَدْ أَحْسَنَ إِلَى نَفْسِهِ
Whoever hides [his] knowledge, it is as if he is an ignorant person

مَنْ عَلِمَ غَوْرَ الْعِلْمِ صَدَرَ عَنْ شَرَائِعِ الْحِكَمِ
One who learns (or lacks) the depth of knowledge proceeds (or is repelled) from the ways of wisdom

مَنْ لَمْ يَتَعَلَّمْ فِي الصِّغَرِ لَمْ يَتَقَدَّمْ فِي الْكِبَرِ
One who does not learn in his young age, does not progress in his old age

مَنْ لَمْ يَصْبِرْ عَلَى مَضَضِ التَّعْلِيمِ بَقِيَ فِي ذُلِّ الْجَهْلِ
One who does not bear the hardships of gaining knowledge (or education) remains in the abject ignorance?

َنْ لَمْ يُدْئِبْ [لَمْ يُذِبْ] نَفْسَهُ فِي اكْتِسَابِ الْعِلْمِ لَمْ يُحْرِزْ قَصَبَاتِ السَّبْقِ
One who does not discipline himself (or spend his life) in acquiring knowledge cannot gain great successes

لَا يَسْتَنْكِفَنَّ مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ يَعْلَمُ أَنْ يَتَعَلَّمَ
The one who does not know must never be too proud to learn

يَنْبَغِي لِلْعَاقِلِ إِذَا عَلَّمَ أَنْ لَا يَعْنُفَ وَإِذَا عُلِّمَ أَنْ لَا يَأْنَفَ
It behoves the intelligent person not to be harsh when he teaches, and not to scorn [others] when he gains knowledge

لَا يُدْرَكُ الْعِلْمُ بِرَاحَةِ الْجِسْمِ
Knowledge is not attained with physical comfort

الْعَالِمُ وَالْمُتَعَلِّمُ شَرِيكَانِ فِي الْأَجْرِ وَلَا خَيْرَ فِيمَا بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ
The scholar and the student are partners in reward; there no good in anything between this
