يَسِّرُوا وَلَا تُعَسِّرُوا وَخَفِّفُوا وَلَا تُثَقِّلُوا
Make [matters] easy and not arduous; make [them] light and not strenuous

Loss is [a cause of] sorrows

الصِّحَّةُ أَفْضَلُ النِّعَمِ
Good health is the best blessing

الْعَافِيَةُ أَهْنَى النِّعَمِ
Well-being is the most pleasant of blessings

الْعَافِيَةُ أَفْضَلُ [أَشْرَفُ] اللِّبَاسَيْنِ
Well-being is the better of the two attires

الصِّحَّةُ أَهْنَأُ اللَّذَّتَيْنِ
Good health is the more salubrious of the two delights

الْعَوَافِي [الْعَافِيَةُ] إِذَا دَامَتْ جُهِلَتْ وَإِذَا فُقِدَتْ عُرِفَتْ
Good health is such that when it lasts, it is disregarded and when it is lost, its value is known

امْشِ بِدَائِكَ مَا مَشَى بِكَ
Walk with your ailment as long as you can

أَوْفَرُ الْقِسْمِ صِحَّةُ الْجِسْمِ
The most bountiful share is good health

بِالْعَافِيَةِ تُوجَدُ لَذَّةُ الْحَيَاةِ
Through well-being, life becomes pleasurable

بِالصِّحَّةِ تَسْتَكْمِلُ اللَّذَّةُ
With good health, enjoyment becomes complete

بِصِحَّةِ الْمِزَاجِ تُوجَدُ لَذَّةُ الطَّعْمِ
With good health, there is delight in the taste [of food]

تَوَقَّوُا الْبَرْدَ فِي أَوَّلِهِ وَتَلَقَّوْهُ فِي آخِرِهِ فَإِنَّهُ يَفْعَلُ فِي الْأَبْدَانِ كَمَا يَفْعَلُ فِي الْأَغْصَانِ أَوَّلُهُ يُحْرِقُ وَآخِرُهُ يُورِقُ
Be cautious of the cold [of winter] at its onset and embrace it towards its ending, for it acts upon the bodies as it acts upon the branches its beginning scorches and its end causes leaves to grow

ثَوْبُ الْعَافِيَةِ أَهْنَأُ الْمَلَابِسِ
The garment of well-being is the most pleasant of attires

دَوَامُ الْعَافِيَةِ أَهْنَأُ عَطِيَّةٍ وَأَفْضَلُ قِسْمٍ
Lasting good health is the most pleasant gift and the best portion

صِحَّةُ الْأَجْسَامِ مِنْ أَهْنَإِ الْأَقْسَامِ
Physical health is one of the most wholesome bounties

كَيْفَ يَغْتَرُّ بِسَلَامَةِ جِسْمٍ مُعَرَّضٍ لِلْآفَاتِ
How can one be deceived by the health of a body that is prone to malady?

كَيْفَ يَكُونُ مَنْ يَفْنَى بِبَقَائِهِ وَيَسْقُمُ بِصِحَّتِهِ وَيُؤْتَى مِنْ مَأْمَنِهِ
(When he was asked ‘how are you O Am?r al-Mu’min?n?’, he replied: ) How would he be whom life is driving towards death, whose state of health can be changed to sickness at any moment and who can be approached [by death] from his place of safety?!

لَا دَوَاءَ لِمَشْغُوفٍ بِدَائِهِ
There is no remedy for the one who is fond of his ailment

لَا شِفَاءَ لِمَنْ كَتَمَ طَبِيبَهُ دَاءَهُ
There is no cure for the one who hides his ailment from his doctor

لَا تَجْتَمِعُ الصِّحَّةُ وَالنَّهَمُ
Good health and gluttony do not go together

لَا تَجْتَمِعُ الْجُوعُ وَالْمَرَضُ

لَا وِقَايَةَ أَمْنَعُ مِنَ السَّلَامَةِ
There is no preservation more averting [of harm] than security [that is granted by Allah]

لَا تَجْتَمِعُ الشَّبِيبَةُ وَالْهَرَمُ
Youthfulness and senility do not go together

لَا تَجْتَمِعُ عَزِيمَةٌ وَوَلِيمَةٌ
Strong determination and lavishness do not go together

لَا تُنَالُ الصِّحَّةُ إِلَّا بِالْحِمْيَةِ
Good health is not attained except through a good diet

لَا لِبَاسَ أَجْمَلُ مِنَ السَّلَامَةِ
There is no attire more appealing than security [and well-being]

There is no affliction greater than the unrelenting physical ailment

There is no life more pleasant than [life] with good health
