عَجِبْتُ لِرَجُلٍ يَأْتِيهِ أَخُوهُ الْمُسْلِمُ فِي حَاجَةٍ فَيَمْتَنِعُ عَنْ قَضَائِهَا وَلَا يَرَى نَفْسَهُ لِلْخَيْرِ أَهْلًا فَهَبْ أَنَّهُ لَا ثَوَابَ يُرْجَى وَلَا عِقَابَ يُتَّقَى أَ فَتَزْهَدُونَ فِي مَكَارِمِ الْأَخْلَاقِ
I am amazed at the person who is approached by his Muslim brother in need and refuses to fulfil it, not deeming himself worthy of [doing] good; so assume that he does not desire any reward nor does he fear any punishmentDo they lack interest in [acquiring] noble traits?

الْحِيلَةُ [الجلية] فَائِدَةُ الْفِكْرِ
The benefit of thinking is finding solutions

أَفْضَلُ النَّاسِ أَنْفَعُهُمْ لِلنَّاسِ
The best of people are those who benefit others the most

إِنَّ حَوَائِجَ النَّاسِ إِلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَةٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ فَاغْتَنِمُوهَا وَلَا تَمَلُّوهَا فَتَتَحَوَّلَ نِقَماً
Verily the needs of the people that are addressed to you are a blessing from Allah upon you, so take advantage of them and do not be weary of them, lest they should turn into [divine] wrath

إِنَّمَا الْمَجْدُ أَنْ تُعْطِيَ فِي الْغُرْمِ [الْعَزْمِ] وَتَعْفُوَ عَنِ الْجُرْمِ
erily distinction is nothing but your giving that which you owe [of the rights of others] and forgiving the offences [of others]

تَبَادَرُوا الْمَكَارِمَ وَسَارِعُوا إِلَى تَحَمُّلِ الْمَغَارِمِ وَاسْعَوْا فِي حَاجَةِ مَنْ هُوَ نَائِمٌ يَحْسُنُ لَكُمْ فِي الدَّارَيْنِ الْجَزَاءُ وَتَنَالُوا مِنَ اللَّهِ عَظِيمَ الْحَبَاءِ
Rush towards noble deeds, make haste in bearing the liabilities [of others] and hurry to fulfil the needs of the one who is unaware [of your assistance], your reward will thus be good in both abodes, and you will acquire a great prize from Allah

مَنْ رَجَاكَ فَلَا تُخَيِّبْ أَمَلَهُ
When one has hope in you, [then] do not disappoint his hope

مَنْ حَرَمَ السَّائِلَ مَعَ الْقُدْرَةِ عُوقِبَ بِالْحِرْمَانِ
One who conceals the favour [that has been done to him] is punished with deprivation

مَنِ احْتَاجَ إِلَيْكَ وَجَبَ إِسْعَافُهُ عَلَيْكَ
When someone turns to you with his needs, it becomes obligatory upon you to help him

مِنَ الْمُرُوَّةِ أَنَّكَ إِذَا سُئِلْتَ أَنْ تَتَكَلَّفَ وَإِذَا سَأَلْتَ أَنْ تُخَفِّفَ
It is from magnanimity for you to go out of your way when you are asked [for something] and to lighten [your requests] when you ask [someone for anything]

مَا مِنْ عَمَلٍ أَحَبَّ إِلَى اللَّهِ تَعَالَى مِنْ ضُرٍّ يَكْشِفُهُ رَجُلٌ عَنْ رَجُلٍ
No action is more beloved to Allah, the Most High, than for a person to remove the distress [and adversity] from another person

مُصِيبَةٌ فِي غَيْرِكَ لَكَ أَجْرُهَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ مُصِيبَةٍ بِكَ لِغَيْرِكَ ثَوَابُهَا وَأَجْرُهَا
A hardship that befalls others and has reward for you is better than the hardship that befalls you while its reward and recompense is for others

لَا تُؤَخِّرْ إِنَالَةَ الْمُحْتَاجِ إِلَى غَدٍ فَإِنَّكَ لَا تَدْرِي مَا يَعْرِضُ لَكَ وَلَهُ فِي غَدٍ
Do not delay giving the needy to tomorrow, for you do not know what will happen to you or to him tomorrow

لَا تُخَيِّبِ الْمُحْتَاجَ وَإِنْ أَلْحَفَ
Do not frustrate the needy even if he insists [for more]

أَقِمِ الرَّغْبَةَ إِلَيْكَ مَقَامَ الْحِرْمَةِ بِكَ
Make others incline towards you instead of distancing themselves from you

تَعْجِيلُ الْيَأْسِ أَحَدُ الظَّفَرَيْنِ
Hastening the loss of hope [in others] is one of the two triumphs
