الْفِطْنَةُ بِالْبَصِيرَةِ
Astuteness is [gained] through discernment

الْفَهْمُ بِالْفِطْنَةِ
Understanding is [achieved] though intelligence

الْيَقْظَةُ نُورٌ الْغَفْلَةُ غُرُورٌ
Alertness is illumination, negligence is delusion

الْفِطْنَةُ هِدَايَةٌ
Astuteness is [a means of attaining] guidance

الْيَقْظَةُ اسْتِبْصَارٌ
Alertness is perspicacity

الْيَقْظَةُ كَرْبٌ
Alertness is [a cause of] grief

الْمَرْءُ [الرَّجُلَ] بِفِطْنَتِهِ لَا بِصُورَتِهِ
A man is [to be gauged] by his astuteness not by his appearance

ضَادُّوا الْغَفْلَةَ بِالْيَقْظَةِ
Counter negligence with attentiveness

ضَادُّوا الْغَبَاوَةَ بِالْفِطْنَةِ
Counter imbecility with astuteness

قَدْ يُقِّظْتُمْ فَتَيَقَّظُوا وَهُدِيتُمْ فَاهْتَدُوا
Indeed you have been alerted so become vigilant, and you have been guided so follow the guidance

مَنْ تَبَصَّرَ فِي الْفِطْنَةِ ثَبَتَتْ لَهُ الْحِكْمَةُ وَعَرَفَ الْعِبْرَةَ
Whoever reflects with astuteness, wisdom gets established for him and he understands the lesson [of the past]

مَنْ عَجَزَ عَنْ حَاضِرِ لُبِّهِ فَهُوَ عَنْ غَائِبِهِ أَعْجَزُ وَمِنْ غَائِبِهِ أَعْوَزُ
Whoever is incapable of using his own present intellect, then he is more helpless with regards to the far-off intelligence [of others] and the one who is absent from him is more useless [to him]
