إِذَا كَرُمَ [أُكْرِمَ] أَصْلُ الرَّجُلِ كَرُمَ مَغِيبُهُ وَمَحْضَرُهُ
When the core of a man is noble, [both] his absence and presence are [considered] noble

جَمِيلُ الْمَقْصَدِ يَدُلُّ عَلَى طَهَارَةِ الْمَوْلِدِ
Having good aims [and intentions] is an indication of legitimate birth

فَخْرُ الْمَرْءِ بِفَضْلِهِ لَا بِأَصْلِهِ [بِأَهْلِهِ]
The pride of a man is by his merit, not because of his origin [and lineage]

لَيْسَتِ الْأَنْسَابُ بِالْآبَاءِ وَالْأُمَّهَاتِ لَكِنَّهَا بِالْفَضَائِلِ الْمَحْمُودَاتِ
Lineage is not defined by the fathers and mothers, rather [it is defined] by the praiseworthy merits

مَنْ أَخَّرَهُ عَدَمُ أَدَبِهِ لَمْ يُقَدِّمْهُ كَثَافَةُ حَسَبِهِ
One who is held back by his lack of etiquette will not be pushed forward by the weight of his honourable lineage

مَنْ أَبْطَأَ بِهِ عَمَلُهُ لَمْ يُسْرِعْ بِهِ نَسَبُهُ
One who is slowed down by his action cannot be quickened by his lineage

مَنْ وَضَعَهُ دَنَاءَةُ أَدَبِهِ لَمْ يَرْفَعْهُ شَرَفُ حَسَبِهِ
One who is abased because of his poor etiquette will not be elevated by his noble lineage

مَنْ خَبُثَ عُنْصُرُهُ سَاءَ مَحْضَرُهُ
ne whose lineage is wicked, his presence [in any gathering] is bad

مَنْ كَرُمَ مَحْتِدُهُ حَسُنَ مَشْهَدُهُ
One whose lineage is honourable, his presence is good

مَنْزَعُ [مَفْزَعُ] الْكَرِيمِ أَبَداً إِلَى شِيَمِ آبَائِهِ
The propensity of a noble-minded person is always towards the [positive] traits of his forefathers

لَا جَمَالَ كَالْحَسَبِ
There is no beauty like high regard

لَا يَنْفَعُ الْحُسْنُ بِغَيْرِ نَجَابَةٍ [نَجَاحَةٍ]
Physical beauty is of no benefit without nobility
