الْمَعْرُوفُ سِيَادَةٌ
Benevolence is authority

أَفْضِلْ عَلَى النَّاسِ يَعْظُمْ قَدْرُكَ
Bestow favours on the people and your status will increase

بِفِعْلِ الْمَعْرُوفِ يُسْتَدَامُ الشُّكْرُ
Through benevolence, gratitude lasts

بِالْإِحْسَانِ وَتَغَمُّدِ الذُّنُوبِ بِالْغُفْرَانِ يَعْظُمُ الْمَجْدُ
Through kindness and covering faults with forgiveness, eminence increases

تَمَامُ السُّودَدِ ابْتِدَاءُ الصَّنَائِعِ
The completion of eminence is in taking the initiative to do good to others

ذُو الْإِفْضَالِ مَشْكُورُ السِّيَادَةِ
Whoever bestows favours on others, they are thankful for his authority

ذُو الْمَعْرُوفِ مَحْمُودُ الْعَادَةِ
Whoever shows benevolence, his habit is praised

عَلَيْكَ بِمَكَارِمِ الْخِلَالِ وَاصْطِنَاعِ الرِّجَالِ فَإِنَّهُمَا يَقِيَانِ مَصَارِعَ السَّوْءِ وَيُوجِبَانِ الْجَلَالَةَ
Acquire noble traits and do good to the people, for indeed these two things protect one from falling into difficulties and lead to loftiness

عِنْدَ كَثْرَةِ الْإِفْضَالِ وَشِدَّةِ الِاحْتِمَالِ تَتَحَقَّقُ الْجَلَالَةُ
When acts of kindness increase and forbearance becomes strong, loftiness is attained

كَثْرَةُ الصَّنَائِعِ تَرْفَعُ الشَّرَفَ وَيَسْتَدِيمُ الشُّكْرَ
Doing a lot of good turns raises one’s honour and makes gratitude last

مَعَ الْإِحْسَانِ تَكُونُ الرِّفْعَةُ
With goodness [to others], there is loftiness

الْإِحْسَانُ مَحَبَّةٌ
Kindness is [a cause of] love

سَبَبُ الْمَحَبَّةِ الْإِحْسَانُ
The cause of affection is benevolence

مَنْ أَحْسَنَ إِلَى النَّاسِ اسْتَدَامَ مِنْهُمُ الْمَحَبَّةَ
Whoever does good to the people, their love for him lasts

مَنْ كَثُرَ إِحْسَانُهُ أَحَبَّهُ إِخْوَانُهُ
One whose kindness is abundant is loved by his brothers

مَنْ صَنَعَ الْعَارِفَةَ الْجَمِيلَةَ حَازَ الْمَحْمَدَةَ الْجَزِيلَةَ
One who renders a beautiful deed acquires great praise

مَنْ أَحْسَنَ اكْتَسَبَ حُسْنَ الثَّنَاءِ
One who does a kind act earns good praise

لَا يُحْمَدُ إِلَّا مَنْ بَذَلَ إِحْسَانَهُ
None is praised except the one who shows his kindness

المروف [الْمَعْرُوفُ] حَسَبٌ
Benevolence is distinction

الْمُحْسِنُ مُعَانٌ الْمُسِيءُ مُهَانٌ
The benevolent is supported

الْكَرَمُ أَعْطَفُ مِنَ الرَّحِمِ
Nobleness is [being] more compassionate than close relatives

الْمُحْسِنُ حَيٌّ وَإِنْ نُقِلَ إِلَى مَنَازِلِ الْأَمْوَاتِ
The benevolent one is alive, even if he is transferred to the dwellings of the dead

الْكَرِيمُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ مَحْبُورٌ مُثَابٌ وَعِنْدَ النَّاسِ مَحْبُوبٌ مُهَابٌ
The noble-minded person is felicitous and worthy of reward in the sight of Allah, and is loved and venerated in the sight of the people

أَحْسِنْ تُشْكَرْ
Do good and you will be thanked

أَحْسِنْ يُحْسَنْ إِلَيْكَ
Be good [to others] and good will be done to you

إِنَّكَ إِنْ أَحْسَنْتَ فَنَفْسَكَ تُكْرِمُ وَإِلَيْهَا تُحْسِنُ
Verily if you do good [to others] then you are [actually] honouring your own soul and doing good to it

صَاحِبُ الْمَعْرُوفِ لَا يَعْثَرُ وَإِذَا عَثَرَ وَجَدَ مُتَّكَأً
The doer of good deeds does not stumble, and when he does stumble, he finds a support [to hold on to]

صَنَائِعُ الْمَعْرُوفِ تَقِي مَصَارِعَ الْهَوَانِ
Performing benevolent actions protects one from falling into disgrace

صَنَائِعُ الْمَعْرُوفِ تُدِرُّ النَّعْمَاءَ وَتَدْفَعُ الْبَلَاءَ
Performing benevolent actions causes the abundant flow of blessings and wards off calamity

عَادَةُ الْإِحْسَانِ مَادَّةُ الْإِمْكَانِ
The habit of benevolence is the source of capability [or power]

كُلُّ مُحْسِنٍ مُسْتَأْنِسٌ
Every good doer is affable

كُلُّ نِعْمَةٍ أُنِيلَ مِنْهَا الْمَعْرُوفُ فَإِنَّهَا مَأْمُونَةُ السَّلْبِ مُحَصَّنَةٌ مِنَ الْغِيَرِ
Every blessing from which good is done [to others] is indeed safe from being taken away and is protected from vicissitudes

كَثْرَةُ اصْطِنَاعِ الْمَعْرُوفِ تَزِيدُ فِي الْعُمُرِ وَتَنْشُرُ الذِّكْرَ
Increased rendering of benevolent works prolongs life and spreads renown

كَافِلُ دَوَامِ الْغِنَى وَالْإِمْكَانِ إِتْبَاعُ الْإِحْسَانِ الْإِحْسَانَ
The guarantee of continued affluence and capability [and power] is [in] following up one favour with another favour

مَنْ بَذَلَ مَعْرُوفَهُ كَثُرَ الرَّاغِبُ إِلَيْهِ
Whoever extends his goodness [to others], more people are inclined towards him

مَنْ كَثُرَ إِحْسَانُهُ كَثُرَ خَدَمُهُ وَأَعْوَانُهُ
One whose benefaction increases, his assistants and helpers [also] increase

مَنْ أَحْسَنَ إِلَى النَّاسِ حَسُنَتْ عَوَاقِبُهُ وَسَهُلَتْ لَهُ طُرُقُهُ
One who is kind to the people, his outcomes become good and the ways [to his goals] become easy for him

مِنَ النُّبْلِ أَنْ يَبْذُلَ الرَّجُلُ مَالَهُ وَيَصُونَ عِرْضَهُ
It is from nobility for a man to spend his wealth and safeguard his dignity

مَا اكْتُسِبَ الشُّكْرُ بِمِثْلِ بَذْلِ الْمَعْرُوفِ
Nothing earns gratitude like doing good to others

مَا حُصِّنَتِ النِّعَمُ بِمِثْلِ الْإِنْعَامِ بِهَا
Nothing safeguards blessings like granting them to others

مَا مِنْ شَيْءٍ يَحْصُلُ بِهِ الْأَمَانُ أَبْلَغَ مِنْ إِيمَانٍ وَإِحْسَانٍ
Nothing brings greater security than [having] faith and [performing] good deeds

وَضْعُ الصَّنِيعَةِ فِي أَهْلِهَا يَكْبِتُ الْعَدُوَّ وَيَقِي مَصَارِعَ السَّوْءِ
Doing a good turn to those who deserve it subdues the enemy and protects from falling into evil
