Benevolent acts are the best booty

الْمَعْرُوفُ أَشْرَفُ سِيَادَةٍ
Benevolence is the most honourable authority

الْبِرُّ غَنِيمَةُ الْحَازِمِ
Righteousness is the prize of the judicious

الْعَاقِلُ مَنْ بَذَلَ نَدَاهُ
The intelligent person is one who spreads his generosity

الْمَعْرُوفُ أَنْمَى [أَثْمَرُ] زَرْعٍ وَأَفْضَلُ كَنْزٍ
Benevolence is the most thriving cultivation and the best treasure

الْكَرَمُ نَتِيجَةُ عُلُوِّ الْهِمَّةِ
Nobleness is the result of lofty endeavour [and high resolve]

الْمَعْرُوفُ كَنْزٌ فَانْظُرْ عِنْدَ مَنْ تُوَدِّعُهُ
Benevolence is a treasure so consider whom you are leaving it with

الْمَعْرُوفُ أَفْضَلُ الْكَنْزَيْنِ
Benevolence is the better of the two treasures

الْإِحْسَانُ غَرِيزَةُ الْأَخْيَارِ وَالْإِسَاءَةُ غَرِيزَةُ الْأَشْرَارِ
Doing good is the nature of the righteous and doing evil is the nature of the wicked

الصَّنِيعَةُ إِذَا لَمْ تُرَبَّ أَخْلَقَتْ كَالثَّوْبِ الْبَالِي وَالْأَبْنِيَةِ الْمُتَدَاعِيَةِ
If a righteous act is not nurtured, it wears away, just like worn out garments and dilapidated buildings

افْعَلِ الْمَعْرُوفَ مَا أَمْكَنَ وَازْجُرِ الْمُسِيءَ بِفِعْلِ الْمُحْسِنِ
Do good whenever possible, and deter the evildoer with righteous action

اغْتَنِمْ صَنَائِعَ الْإِحْسَانِ وَارْعَ ذِمَمَ الْإِخْوَانِ
Seize the opportunity to perform righteous deeds and be careful of your obligations towards your brothers

ابْذُلْ مَعْرُوفَكَ لِلنَّاسِ كَافَّةً فَإِنَّ فَضِيلَةَ فِعْلِ الْمَعْرُوفِ لَا يَعْدِلُهَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ سُبْحَانَهُ شَيْءٌ
Extend your benevolence to all the people, for verily nothing can be equated with the virtue of a good turn in the sight of Allah, the Glorified

اسْمَحُوا إِذَا سُئِلْتُمْ
Give generously when you are asked

أَفْضَلُ الْإِيمَانِ الْإِحْسَانُ
The best faith is [that which is accompanied by] righteousness

أَحْسَنُ الصَّنَائِعِ مَا وَافَقَ الشَّرَائِعَ
The best favours are those that correspond with divinely ordained laws.

أَرْبَحُ الْبَضَائِعِ اصْطِنَاعُ الصَّنَائِعِ
The most profitable wares are the rendering of benevolent actions

أَفْضَلُ الْمَعْرُوفِ إِغَاثَةُ الْمَلْهُوفِ
The best good deed is coming to the aid of the aggrieved

أَفْضَلُ مِنَ الصَّنِيعَةِ مَزِيَّةُ [مرية] الصَّنِيعَةِ
The merit of a righteous action is better than the action [itself]

أَفْضَلُ الشَّرَفِ بَذْلُ الْإِحْسَانِ
The best honour is doing good to others

أَجْمَلُ أَفْعَالِ ذَوِي الْقُدْرَةِ الْإِنْعَامُ
The most beautiful act of a person in a position of power is conferring of favours [to those under him]

أَفْضَلُ الشَّرَفِ كَفُّ الْأَذَى وَبَذْلُ الْإِحْسَانِ
The best honour is desisting from harming others and doing good to others

إِنَّ مَكْرُمَةً صَنَعْتَهَا إِلَى أَحَدٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ إِنَّمَا أَكْرَمْتَ بِهَا نَفْسَكَ وَزَيَّنْتَ بِهَا عِرْضَكَ فَلَا تَطْلُبْ مِنْ غَيْرِكَ شُكْرَ مَا صَنَعْتَ إِلَى نَفْسِكَ
Verily the good turn that you did to one of the people was only a means to ennoble yourself and embellish your honour, so do not seek gratitude from others for that which you did for yourself

إِنَّكُمْ إِلَى اصْطِنَاعِ الرِّجَالِ أَحْوَجُ مِنْكُمْ إِلَى جَمْعِ الْأَمْوَالِ
Verily you are more in need of doing good to the people than of accumulating wealth

إِنَّمَا الْكَرَمُ بَذْلُ الرَّغَائِبِ وَإِسْعَافُ الطَّالِبِ
Munificence is nothing but granting the wishes and fulfilling the needs of the seeker

إِذَا صُنِعَ إِلَيْكَ مَعْرُوفاً فَانْشُرْهُ
When a good turn has been done to you then publicize it

إِذَا أَحْسَنْتَ عَلَى اللَّئِيمِ وَتَرَكَ بِإِحْسَانِكَ إِلَيْهِ
If you do good to a vile person, he will wrong you in return for your goodness to him

ثَلَاثٌ هُنَّ جِمَاعُ الْخَيْرِ إِسْدَاءُ النِّعَمِ وَرِعَايَةُ الذِّمَمِ وَصِلَةُ الرَّحِمِ
Three things consolidate that which is good: bestowing favours, guarding [one’s] sureties and keeping ties with near relatives

جَمَالُ الْمَعْرُوفِ إِتْمَامُهُ
The beauty of a benevolent act is in completing it

خَيْرُ الْعِبَادِ مَنْ إِذَا أَحْسَنَ اسْتَبْشَرَ وَإِذَا أَسَاءَ اسْتَغْفَرَ
The best of servants is one who is delighted when he does good and when he does evil, he repents

خُذْ عَلَى عَدُوِّكَ بِالْفَضْلِ فَإِنَّهُ أَحَدُ الظَّفَرَيْنِ
Act with kindness towards your enemy for this is one of the two triumphs

خُذْ بِالْعَدْلِ وَأَعْطِ بِالْفَضْلِ تَحُزِ الْمَنْقَبَتَيْنِ
Take with justice but give with munificence; you will possess two virtues

ذُو الْعَقْلِ لَا يَنْكَشِفُ إِلَّا عَنِ احْتِمَالٍ وَإِجْمَالٍ وَإِفْضَالٍ
The one who possesses intellect is not known except by [his] tolerance, temperance and kindness

رَأْسُ الْإِيمَانِ الْإِحْسَانُ إِلَى النَّاسِ
The pinnacle of faith is doing good to people

زَكَاةُ الْمَالِ الْإِفْضَالُ
The alms-tax of wealth is benefitting others [with it]

زَكَاةُ النِّعَمِ اصْطِنَاعُ الْمَعْرُوفِ
The alms-tax of blessings is doing good to others

زِينَةُ الْإِسْلَامِ إِعْمَالُ الْإِحْسَانِ
The embellishment of Islam is performing righteous actions

شَيْئَانِ لَا يُوَازِنُهُمَا عَمَلٌ حُسْنُ الْوَرَعِ وَالْإِحْسَانُ إِلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Two things cannot be matched in weight by any [other] action: virtuous piety and kindness towards the believers

صِدْقُ الْإِيمَانِ وَصَنَائِعُ الْإِحْسَانِ أَفْضَلُ الذَّخَائِرِ
True faith and good deeds are the best provisions

صَنَائِعُ الْإِحْسَانِ مِنْ فَضَائِلِ الْإِنْسَانِ
Doing good turns is from the merits of the human being

ضَادُّوا الْإِسَاءَةَ بِالْإِحْسَانِ
Counter the wrongs [of others] by doing good [to them]

عَلَيْكَ بِالْإِحْسَانِ فَإِنَّهُ أَفْضَلُ زِرَاعَةٍ وَأَرْبَحُ بِضَاعَةٍ
Espouse kindness, for it is the best cultivation and the most profitable merchandise

فِي كُلِّ مَعْرُوفٍ إِحْسَانٌ
In every [act of] benevolence there is kindness

قَدْرُ كُلِّ امْرِئٍ مَا يُحْسِنُهُ
The worth of every person is [measured by] that which he does well

قَدْرُ الْمَرْءِ عَلَى قَدْرِ فَضْلِهِ
A person’s worth is based on the extent of his merit

كُلُّ مَعْرُوفٍ إِحْسَانٌ
Every [form of] benevolence is a favour

لِلْكِرَامِ فَضِيلَةُ الْمُبَادَرَةِ إِلَى فِعْلِ الْمَعْرُوفِ وَإِسْدَاءِ الصَّنَائِعِ
The merit of initiating good deeds and performing generous acts belongs to the noble-minded people

لَيْسَ ثَوَابٌ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ سُبْحَانَهُ أَعْظَمَ مِنْ ثَوَابِ السُّلْطَانِ الْعَادِلِ وَالرَّجُلِ الْمُحْسِنِ
There is no reward with Allah, the Glorified, greater than the reward of a just ruler and a benevolent man

لَوْ رَأَيْتُمُ الْإِحْسَانَ شَخْصاً لَرَأَيْتُمُوهُ شَكْلًا جَمِيلًا يَفُوقُ الْعَالَمِينَ
If you were to see benevolence in the form a person, you would surely see him as a beautiful form that surpasses the worlds [in its beauty]

مَنْ وُفِّقَ أَحْسَنَ
Whoever is granted success does good [work]

مَنْ أَنْعَمَ قَضَى حَقَّ السِّيَادَةِ
One who bestows favours fulfils the right of authority

مَنْ قَضَى مَا أُسْلِفَ مِنَ الْإِحْسَانِ فَهُوَ كَامِلُ الْحُرِّيَّةِ
One who fulfils the [debt of] goodness that was done to him in the past has attained true freedom

مَنِ انْتَجَعَكَ مُؤَمِّلًا فَقَدْ أَسْلَفَكَ حُسْنَ الظَّنِّ بِكَ فَلَا تُخَيِّبْ ظَنَّهُ
One who turns to you hopefully has already got a good impression of you, so do not disappoint his expectation

مَنْ قَبِلَ مَعْرُوفَكَ فَقَدْ أَوْجَبَ عَلَيْكَ حَقَّهُ
One who accepts your good turn has made his right over you mandatory [on himself]

مَنْ لَمْ يُؤَكِّدْ قَدِيمَهُ بِحَدِيثِهِ شَانَ سَلَفَهُ وَخَانَ خَلَفَهُ
One who does not affirm his past [iethe good character of his forefathers] with his present [iehis own good character], disgraces his predecessor and betrays his successor

مِنْ شَرَفِ الْهِمَّةِ بَذْلُ الْإِحْسَانِ
Doing good to others is part of an honourable purpose

مِنْ عَلَامَاتِ الْإِقْبَالِ اصْطِنَاعُ الرِّجَالِ
One of the signs of turning [towards Allah] is doing good to the people

مَا تَوَسَّلَ أَحَدٌ إِلَيَّ بِوَسِيلَةٍ أَجَلَّ عِنْدِي مِنْ يَدٍ سَبَقَتْ مِنِّي إِلَيْهِ لِأُرَبِّيَهَا عِنْدَهُ بِاتِّبَاعِهَا أُخْتَهَا فَإِنَّ مَنْعَ الْأَوَاخِرِ يَقْطَعُ شُكْرَ الْأَوَائِلِ
No one has appealed to me with an intercession that is greater in my sight than a favour that I had previously done to him, so that I may nurture it and follow it up with another [favour] like it; for indeed later refusals cut off the gratitude for earlier favours

مِلَاكُ الْمُرُوَّةِ صِدْقُ اللِّسَانِ وَبَذْلُ الْإِحْسَانِ
The basis of magnanimity is truthful speech and doing good to others

نِعْمَ الْمَرْءُ الْمَعْرُوفُ [الْعَرُوفُ]
What an excellent person the compassionate one is!

لَا يَكُونَنَّ أَخُوكَ عَلَى الْإِسَاءَةِ إِلَيْكَ أَقْوَى مِنْكَ عَلَى الْإِحْسَانِ إِلَيْهِ
Let not your brother be stronger in his iniquity towards you than you are in your goodness [towards him]

لَا تُذَمُّ أَبَداً عَوَاقِبَ الْإِحْسَانِ
The consequences of kindness are never dispraised

يُسْتَدَلُّ عَلَى مُرُوَّةِ الرَّجُلِ بِبَثِّ الْمَعْرُوفِ وَبَذْلِ الْإِحْسَانِ وَتَرْكِ الِامْتِنَانِ
The magnanimity of a person is evinced by [his] spreading goodness, granting favours and abandoning [putting others under] obligation
