ذم منع العطاء و آثارها
الْمَطَلُ أَحَدُ الْمَنْعَيْنِ
Delay [in giving] is one of the two refusals

الْعَطِيَّةُ بَعْدَ الْمَنْعِ أَجْمَلُ مِنَ الْمَنْعِ بَعْدَ الْعَطِيَّةِ
Giving after having refused is more graceful than refusing after having given

أَقْبَحُ أَفْعَالِ الْكَرِيمِ مَنْعُ عَطَائِهِ
The ugliest deed of an honourable person is withholding his contribution

إِنَّ الْمِسْكِينَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ فَمَنْ أَعْطَاهُ فَقَدْ أَعْطَى اللَّهَ وَمَنْ مَنَعَهُ فَقَدْ مَنَعَ اللَّهَ سُبْحَانَهُ
Verily, the beggar is a messenger of Allah, so one who gives to him gives to Allah and one who withholds from him, withholds from Allah, the Glorified

إِذَا قَلَّ أَهْلُ الْفَضْلِ هَلَكَ أَهْلُ التَّجَمُّلِ
When the kind people become fewer, those who adorn themselves get ruined

ظَلَمَ السَّخَاءَ مَنْ مَنَعَ الْعَطَاءَ
He who holds back from giving has oppressed generosity

لَمْ يُرْزَقِ الْمَالَ مَنْ لَمْ يُنْفِقْهُ
One who does not spend [his] wealth [in the way of Allah] has not been blessed with wealth

مَنْ مَنَعَ الْعَطَاءَ مَنَعَ الثَّنَاءَ
One who withholds from giving is deprived of [or prevents] praise

مَنْ هَانَ عَلَيْهِ بَذْلُ الْأَمْوَالِ [الْآمَالِ] تَوَجَّهَتْ إِلَيْهِ الْآمَالُ [الْأَمْوَالُ]
One who finds it easy to give away [his] wealth has hopes directed towards him

مَنْ لَمْ يَسْمَحْ وَهُوَ مَحْمُودٌ سَمَحَ وَهُوَ مَلُومٌ
One who does not give generously while he is praised has to give away while he is dispraised

مَنْ لَمْ يَجُدْ [لم يحمد] لَمْ يُحْمَدْ
One who does not show generosity is not praised

مَنْ لَمْ يُعْطِ قَاعِداً مُنِعَ قَائِماً
One who does not give while he is sitting [in ease] will be deprived when he is standing [in adversity]

مَنْ مَنَعَ الْمَالَ مَنْ يَحْمَدُهُ وَرَّثَهُ مَنْ لَا يَحْمَدُهُ
Whoever withholds wealth from the one who praises him bequeaths it to one who does not praise him

مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ سَخَاءٌ وَلَا حَيَاءٌ [حَبَاءٌ] فَالْمَوْتُ خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنَ الْحَيَاةِ
When there is neither generosity nor shame in a person, then death is better for him than life

مَنْ لَمْ تَعْرِفِ الْكَرَمَ مِنْ طَبْعِهِ فَلَا تَرْجُهُ
When one is not known to have a generous nature, [then] do not have hope in him

مَا أَكْمَلَ السِّيَادَةَ مَنْ لَمْ يَسْمَحْ
He who does not grant generously has not perfected [his] eminence
