مدح السخاوة والعطاء
السَّخَاءُ سَجِيَّةٌ الشَّرَفُ مَزِيَّةٌ
Generosity is a [righteous] trait; honour is a virtue

السَّخَاءُ أَشْرَفُ عَادَةٍ
Generosity is the most honourable habit

الضِّيَافَةُ رَأْسُ الْمُرُوَّةِ [الصِّيَانَةُ أَوَّلُ الْمُرُوَّةِ]
Hospitality is the cornerstone of magnanimity

الْكَرَمُ مَعْدِنُ الْخَيْرِ
Nobleness is the source of goodness

السَّخَاءُ خُلُقُ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ
Generosity is a quality of the Prophets

الْكَرَمُ أَفْضَلُ الشِّيَمِ
Munificence is the best of traits

السَّخَاءُ حُبُّ السَّائِلِ وَبَذْلُ النَّائِلِ
Generosity is showing affection to the beggar and giving open-handedly

السَّيِّدُ مَنْ تَحَمَّلَ الْمَئُونَةَ وَجَادَ بِالْمَعُونَةِ
The eminent person is one who bears the responsibility of providing [for others] and is generous with his assistance

الْكَرِيمُ مَنْ جَاءَ [جَادَ] بِالْمَوْجُودِ
The munificent person is one who brings [and gives away] whatever is available

السَّخَاءُ إِحْدَى السَّعَادَتَيْنِ
Generosity is one of the two felicities

الْجُودُ فِي اللَّهِ عِبَادَةُ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ
Generosity for the sake of Allah is the worship of those who are close [to Allah]

السَّخَاءُ وَالشَّجَاعَةُ غَرَائِزُ شَرِيفَةٌ يَضَعُهَا اللَّهُ سُبْحَانَهُ فِيمَنْ أَحَبَّهُ وَامْتَحَنَهُ
Generosity and courage are honourable instincts which Allah, the Glorified, puts in the one whom He loves and has subjected to trials

الْكَرَمُ إِيثَارُ عُذُوبَةِ الثَّنَاءِ عَلَى حُبِّ الْمَالِ
Nobleness is [in] preferring the pleasantness of praise over the love of wealth

السَّخَاءُ أَنْ تَكُونَ بِمَالِكَ مُتَبَرِّعاً وَعَنْ مَالِ غَيْرِكَ مُتَوَرِّعاً
Generosity means being open-handed with your [own] wealth while being cautious with the wealth of others

إِعْطَاءُ هَذَا الْمَالِ فِي حُقُوقِ اللَّهِ دَخْلٌ [دَاخِلٌ] فِي بَابِ الْجُودِ
Giving this wealth in order to fulfil the rights of Allah has been made part of generosity

السَّخَاءُ ثَمَرَةُ الْعَقْلِ وَالْقَنَاعَةُ بُرْهَانُ النُّبْلِ
Generosity is the fruit of the intellect and contentment is the evidence of nobility

النُّبْلُ بِالتَّحَلِّي بِالْجُودِ وَالْوَفَاءُ بِالْعُهُودِ
Nobility is [attained] by adorning [oneself] with generosity and fulfilling [one’s] promises

الْكَرِيمُ مَنْ صَانَ عِرْضَهُ بِمَالِهِ وَاللَّئِيمُ مَنْ صَانَ مَالَهُ بِعِرْضِهِ
A noble-minded person is one who safeguards his honour with his wealth while the wicked person is one safeguards his wealth by [sacrificing] his honour

السَّخَاءُ وَالْحَيَاءُ أَفْضَلُ الْخُلُقِ
Generosity and shame are the best characteristics

انْسَ رِفْدَكَ اذْكُرْ وَعْدَكَ
Forget your gift, [and] remember your promise

ابْذُلْ مَالَكَ فِي الْحُقُوقِ وَوَاسِ بِهِ الصَّدِيقَ فَإِنَّ السَّخَاءَ بِالْحُرِّ أَخْلَقُ
Donate your wealth generously towards righteous works and support your friend[s] with it, for indeed generosity is a more befitting trait for the free

أَشْجَعُ النَّاسِ أَسْخَاهُمْ
The most courageous of people is the most generous of them

أَحْسَنُ الْمَكَارِمِ الْجُودُ
The most excellent of noble traits is generosity

أَفْضَلُ النَّاسِ السَّخِيُّ الْمُوقِنُ
The most excellent person is the generous one who possesses certitude

أَحْسَنُ النَّاسِ عَيْشاً مَنْ عَاشَ النَّاسُ فِي فَضْلِهِ
Of all the people, the person who has the best lifestyle is one in whose grace other people live

أَفْضَلُ النَّاسِ فِي الدُّنْيَا الْأَسْخِيَاءُ وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ الْأَتْقِيَاءُ
The best people in this world are the generous ones, and in the Hereafter, the God-wary

أَكْرَمُ الْأَخْلَاقِ السَّخَاءُ وَأَعَمُّهَا نَفْعاً الْعَدْلُ
The most honourable of qualities is generosity, and the most universal in benefit is justice

أَفْضَلُ السَّخَاءِ أَنْ تَكُونَ بِمَالِكَ مُتَبَرِّعاً وَعَنْ مَالِ غَيْرِكَ مُتَوَرِّعاً
The best [form of] generosity is for you to be open-handed with your wealth while being cautious with the wealth of others

أَفْضَلُ الشِّيَمِ السَّخَاءُ وَالْعِفَّةُ وَالسَّكِينَةُ
The best of qualities are generosity, chastity and tranquillity

أَفْضَلُ الْفَضَائِلِ بَذْلُ الرَّغَائِبِ وَإِسْعَافُ الطَّالِبِ وَالْإِجْمَالُ فِي الْمَطَالِبِ
The best of virtues is granting the wishes and fulfilling the needs of the seeker and being moderate in what one seeks

إِنَّ إِعْطَاءَ هَذَا الْمَالِ قِنْيَةٌ وَإِنَّ إِمْسَاكَهُ فِتْنَةٌ
Verily giving away this wealth is an acquisition [for the Hereafter] and withholding it is an affliction

إِنَّ إِنْفَاقَ هَذَا الْمَالِ فِي طَاعَةِ اللَّهِ أَعْظَمُ نِعْمَةٍ وَإِنَّ إِنْفَاقَهُ فِي مَعَاصِيهِ أَعْظَمُ مِحْنَةٍ
Verily spending this wealth in obedience to Allah is the greatest blessing and spending it in disobedience to Him is the greatest tribulation

إِنَّ اللَّهَ سُبْحَانَهُ يُحِبُّ كُلَّ سَمْحِ الْيَدَيْنِ حَرِيزِ الدِّينِ
Verily Allah, the Glorified, loves everyone who is open-handed and strong in faith

بَذْلُ الْيَدِ بِالْعَطِيَّةِ أَجْمَلُ مَنْقَبَةٍ وَأَفْضَلُ سَجِيَّةٍ
Extending the hand in giving is the most beautiful virtue and the most excellent trait

تَأْمِيلُ النَّاسِ نَوَالَكَ خَيْرٌ مِنْ خَوْفِهِمْ نَكَالَكَ
The peoples’ expectation of your kindness is better than their fear of your retribution

تَحَلَّ بِالسَّخَاءِ وَالْوَرَعِ فَهُمَا حِلْيَةُ الْإِيمَانِ وَأَشْرَفُ خِلَالِكَ
Adorn yourself with generosity and piety, for these two are the embellishments of faith and the most honourable of your traits

جُودُ الْفَقِيرِ أَفْضَلُ الْجُودِ
The generosity of the poor is the best generosity

جُودُوا بِالْمَوْجُودِ وَأَنْجِزُوا الْوُعُودَ وَأَوْفُوا بِالْعُهُودِ
Be generous with what is available, fulfil your promises and be loyal with the trusts [that have been entrusted to you]

خَيْرُ الْمَكَارِمِ الْإِيثَارُ
The best of noble traits is altruism

خَيْرُ النَّاسِ مَنْ كَانَ فِي يُسْرِهِ سَخِيّاً شَكُوراً
The best person is one who is generous and thankful in times of prosperity

زَكَاةُ الْجَاهِ بَذْلُهُ
The alms-tax of high rank [and power] is benefitting others with it

عَلَيْكَ بِالسَّخَاءِ فَإِنَّهُ ثَمَرَةُ الْعَقْلِ
Espouse generosity, for indeed it is the fruit of the intellect

كُنْ بِمَالِكَ مُتَبَرِّعاً وَعَنْ مَالِ غَيْرِكَ مُتَوَرِّعاً
Be a [generous] donor with your [own] wealth while being cautious with the wealth of others

لِيُرَ عَلَيْكَ أَثَرُ مَا أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ بِهِ عَلَيْكَ
Let the effect of what Allah has blessed you with be visible on you

لِيَكُنْ سَجِيَّتُكَ السَّخَاءَ وَالْإِحْسَانَ
Let your traits be generosity and benevolence

لَوْ رَأَيْتُمُ السَّخَاءَ رَجُلًا لَرَأَيْتُمُوهُ حَسَناً يَسُرُّ النَّاظِرِينَ
If you were to see generosity in the form of a man, you would surely see him as a handsome person, pleasing to look at

مَنْ جَادَ اصْطَنَعَ
One who is open-handed does good to others

مِنْ كَمَالِ النِّعْمَةِ التَّحَلِّي بِالسَّخَاءِ وَالتَّعَفُّفِ
Being adorned with generosity and chastity is one of the most perfect blessings

مِنْ أَفْضَلِ الْمَكَارِمِ تَحَمُّلُ الْمَغَارِمِ وَإِقْرَاءُ الضُّيُوفِ
From the best noble deeds is bearing the liabilities [and debts of others] and being hospitable to one’s guests

مَا أَحْسَنَ الْجُودَ مَعَ الْإِعْسَارِ
How excellent is generosity when in straitened circumstances!

مَا شُكِرَتِ النِّعَمُ بِمِثْلِ بَذْلِهَا
Nothing shows gratitude for favors like bestowing them on others

مَا أَحْسَنَ بِالْإِنْسَانِ أَنْ يَقْنَعَ بِالْقَلِيلِ وَيَجُودَ بِاْلَجِزيِل
How good it is for a person to be contented with little and generous with much!

نِعْمَ السَّجِيَّةُ السَّخَاءُ
What a good trait generosity is!

لَا فَضِيلَةَ كَالسَّخَاءِ
There is no merit like generosity

لَا فَخْرَ فِي الْمَالِ إِلَّا مَعَ الْجُودِ
There is no pride in wealth except when accompanied with generosity

لَا يجوز [يَحُوزُ الشُّكْرَ إِلَّا مَنْ بَذَلَ مَالَهُ
No one acquires gratitude except by giving [generously] from his wealth

لَا يَكْمُلُ الشَّرَفُ إِلَّا بِالسَّخَاءِ وَالتَّوَاضُعِ
Honour is not perfected except through generosity and humility
