الدَّيْنُ رِقٌّ الْقَضَاءُ عِتْقٌ
Debt is bondage, repayment is freedom

الْفَقْرُ مَعَ الدَّيْنِ الْمَوْتُ الْأَحْمَرُ
Poverty with debt is [like] a red death

Poverty with debt is the greatest wretchedness

Debt is one of the two bondages

بِئْسَ الْقِلَادَةُ قِلَادَةُ الدَّيْنِ [الذَّنْبِ]
In every evil act there is retribution

كَثْرَةُ الدَّيْنِ تُصَيِّرُ الصَّادِقَ كَاذِباً وَالْمُنْجِزَ مُخْلِفاً
Too much debt makes a truthful person a liar and an honest person dishonest

فِي مَظَالِمِ الْعِبَادِ احْتِقَابُ الْآثَامِ
In [keeping] the usurped rights of the servants, there is amassing of sins

لَمْ يَضِعْ مِنْ مَالِكَ مَا قَضَى قَرْضَكَ
That part of your wealth which is used to fulfil your obligations has not been lost
