آفَةُ الْمُلُوكِ سُوءُ السِّرِيرَةِ
The bane of kings is evil intentions

The bane of viziers is wicked inner thoughts

آفَةُ الزُّعَمَاءِ ضَعْفُ السِّيَاسَةِ
The bane of leaders is weakness in politics

آفَةُ الرَّعِيَّةِ مُخَالَفَةُ الطَّاعَةِ
The bane of the masses is disobedience [to the rightful ruler]

آفَةُ الْقَوِيِّ اسْتِضْعَافُ الْخَصْمِ
The bane of the strong person is underestimating the enemy

آفَةُ الْعُدُولِ قِلَّةُ الْوَرَعِ
The bane of the just [ones] is lack of piety

آفَةُ الْمُلْكِ ضَعْفُ الْحِمَايَةِ
The bane of a kingdom is [having] weak defences

آفَةُ الْقُدْرَةِ مَنْعُ الْإِحْسَانِ
The bane of power is withholding favour

الدَّوْلَةُ تَرُدُّ خَطَأَ صَاحِبِهَا صَوَاباً وَصَوَابَ ضِدِّهِ خَطَاءً
Worldly wealth and power turns the mistake of its owner into a proper act and the proper act of his opponent into a mistake

إِذَا زَادَكَ السُّلْطَانُ تَقْرِيباً فَزِدْهُ إِجْلَالًا
When the ruler makes you come closer to him, then increase your exaltation of him

ثَلَاثَةٌ مُهْلِكَةٌ الْجُرْأَةُ عَلَى السُّلْطَانِ وَائْتِمَانُ الْخَوَّانِ وَشُرْبُ السَّمِّ لِلتَّجْرِبَةِ
Three things cause ruin: boldness in front of the ruler, trusting a disloyal person and tasting poison as an experiment [to see how effective it is!]
