بِئْسَ الِاسْتِعْدَادُ الِاسْتِبْدَادُ
How bad a disposition opinionatedness [and arbitrariness] is!

لِلَّهِ سُبْحَانَهُ حُكْمٌ بَيِّنٌ فِي الْمُسْتَأْثِرِ وَالْجَازِعِ
With Allah, the Glorified, lies the clear verdict between the appropriator [Uthm?n] and the protestor [who was responsible for his assassination]

مَنْ مَلَكَ اسْتَأْثَرَ
One who gains authority [usually] adopts partiality

مَنْ قَنِعَ بِرَأْيِهِ فَقَدْ هَلَكَ
One who is content with his [own] opinion is indeed doomed

مَنِ اسْتَغْنَى بِعَقْلِهِ ضَلَّ
One who becomes satisfied with his own intellect (or action) has gone astray.

مَنِ اسْتَبَدَّ بِرَأْيِهِ زَلَّ
One who is opinionated [and headstrong] slips

مَنِ اسْتَبَدَّ بِرَأْيِهِ خَفَّتْ وَطْأَتُهُ عَلَى أَعْدَائِهِ
When one is opinionated, it becomes easy for his enemies to defeat him

مَنِ اسْتَبَدَّ بِرَأْيِهِ [فَقَدْ] خَاطَرَ وَغَرَّرَ
One who is opinionated has endangered and imperilled [himself]
