متفرقات حول العقل
أَطِعِ الْعَاقِلَ تَغْنَمْ
Follow the intelligent one and you will benefit

اتَّهِمُوا عُقُولَكُمْ فَإِنَّهُ مِنَ الثِّقَةِ بِهَا يَكُونُ الْخَطَأُ
Suspect your intellects, for indeed it is from trusting in them that mistakes are made

إِذَا لَوَّحْتَ لِلْعَاقِلِ فَقَدْ أَوْجَعْتَهُ عِتَاباً
When you make an indirect reference to an intelligent person then you have tormented him with reproof

إِذَا شَابَ الْعَاقِلُ شَبَّ عَقْلُهُ
As the intelligent one grows older, his intellect grows younger

تَلْوِيحُ زَلَّةِ الْعَاقِلِ لَهُ مِنْ أَمَضِّ عِتَابِهِ
Hinting at [and making indirect references to] the error of the intelligent person is one of the most agonizing punishments for him

رَسُولُكَ تَرْجُمَانُ عَقْلِكَ وَاحْتِمَالُكَ دَلِيلُ حِلْمِكَ
You messenger is the interpreter of your intellect, and your tolerance is an indication of your forbearance.

زَلَّةُ الْعَاقِلِ مَحْذُورَةٌ
The lapse of an intelligent person is dangerous

ضَادُّوا الْهَوَى بِالْعَقْلِ
Counter vain desire with the reason

ظَنُّ الْعَاقِلِ أَصَحُّ مِنْ يَقِينِ الْجَاهِلِ
The conjecture of an intelligent person is more correct than the certitude of an ignorant person

ظَنُّ ذَوِي النُّهَى وَالْأَلْبَابِ أَقْرَبُ شَيْءٍ مِنَ الصَّوَابِ
The conjecture of the people of insight and intelligence is the closest thing to correctness

عُقُوبَةُ الْعُقَلَاءِ التَّلْوِيحُ
The punishment of the intelligent is [in the form of] insinuation

لِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ زَكَاةٌ وَزَكَاةُ الْعَقْلِ احْتِمَالُ الْجُهَّالِ
For everything there is an alms-tax and the alms-tax of intelligence is tolerating the ignorant ones

مَنْ مَلَكَ عَقْلَهُ كَانَ حَكِيماً
One who masters his intellect is indeed wise

مَنْ غَلَبَ عَقْلُهُ شَهْوَتَهُ وَحِلْمُهُ غَضَبَهُ كَانَ جَدِيراً بِحُسْنِ السِّيرَةِ
One whose intellect prevails over his lust and his forbearance [overcomes] his anger, then he is worthy of [being deemed as having] good conduct

النَّاسُ مَنْقُوصُونَ مَدْخُولُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ عَصَمَ اللَّهُ سُبْحَانَهُ سَائِلُهُمْ مُتَعَنِّتٌ وَمُجِيبُهُمْ مُتَكَلِّفٌ يَكَادُ أَفْضَلُهُمْ رَأْياً أَنْ يَرُدَّهُ عَنْ فَضْلِ رَأْيِهِ الرِّضَا وَالسَّخَطُ وَيَكَادُ أَصْلَبُهُمْ عُوداً تَنْكَأُهُ اللَّحْظَةُ وَتَسْتَحِيلُهُ [تَسْتَمِيلُهُ] الْكَلِمَةُ الْوَاحِدَةُ
People are made deficient and flawed, except those whom Allah, the Glorified, protectsThe questioner among them aims to embarrass and confuse while the answerer creates troubleIt is not long until the one who has the best views among them is turned away from his good opinion by pleasure or displeasure, and at any moment the most strong-willed among them will get affected by a single glance or transformed by a single expression
