الْكِتَابُ تَرْجُمَانُ النِّيَّةِ
Writing is the interpreter of intention

Writing is the tongue of the hand

افْتَحْ [افْسَحْ] بَرْيَةَ قَلَمِكَ وَاسْمُكْ شَحْمَتَهُ وَأَيْمِنْ قِطَّتَكَ يَجُدْ خَطُّكَ
Open the sharpened nib of your pen, thicken its point [so that it does not break easily] and cut the edge on the right side so that your handwriting becomes good

إِذَا كَتَبْتَ كِتَاباً فَأَعِدْ فِيهِ النَّظَرَ قَبْلَ خَتْمِهِ فَإِنَّمَا تَخْتِمُ عَلَى عَقْلِكَ
When you write something then take another look at it before putting a seal on it, for indeed [by putting a seal on it] you are only putting a seal on your intellect [as your intelligence will be gauged by your writing]

رَسُولُ الرَّجُلِ تَرْجُمَانُ عَقْلِهِ وَكِتَابُهُ أَبْلَغُ مِنْ نُطْقِهِ
A person’s messenger is the interpreter of his reason, and his written message is more conveying than his speech.

رَسُولُكَ مِيزَانُ نُبْلِكَ وَقَلَمُكَ أَبْلَغُ مَنْ يَنْطِقُ عَنْكَ
Your messenger is the gauge of your nobility, and your pen is the most eloquent thing that speaks on your behalf.

عُقُولُ الْفُضَلَاءِ فِي أَطْرَافِ أَقْلَامِهَا
The intellects of the erudite scholars are in the points of their pens

كِتَابُ الرَّجُلِ عُنْوَانُ عَقْلِهِ وَبُرْهَانُ فَضْلِهِ
The writing of a man is the symbol of his intellect and the evidence of his merit

كِتَابُ الْمَرْءِ [الرَّجُلِ] مِعْيَارُ فَضْلِهِ وَمِسْبَارُ نُبْلِهِ
The writing of a person is the gauge of his merit and the measure of his nobility

Books are the gardens of scholars

The book is one of the two interlocutors

مَنْ تَسَلَّى بِالْكُتُبِ لَمْ تَفُتْهُ سَلْوَةٌ
Whoever takes solace [and delight] in [reading] books will never lack [any] solace

How good an interlocutor a book is!
