الْعُمُرُ تُفْنِيهِ اللَّحَظَاتُ
Lifetime is diminished by moments

السَّاعَاتُ تَنْهَبُ [تَنْتَهِبُ] الْأَعْمَارَ

The lifespan [of a person] is [made up of] a specific number of breaths

إِنَّ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ مُسْرِعَانِ فِي هَدْمِ الْأَعْمَارِ
Indeed the night and day are quick in razing the lifetimes

السَّاعَاتُ تَخْتَرِمُ الْأَعْمَارَ وَتُدْنِي مِنَ الْبَوَارِ
The [passing of] hours diminishes lifetimes and bring [one] closer to annihilation

إِنَّ غَايَةً تَنْقُصُهَا اللَّحْظَةُ وَتَهْدِمُهَا السَّاعَةُ لَحَرِيَّةٌ بِقِصَرِ الْمُدَّةِ
Verily the life that is being shortened every moment and being dismantled every hour must be regarded as very short

كَيْفَ يُفْرَحُ بِعُمُرٍ تَنْقُصُهُ السَّاعَاتُ
How can one be pleased with a lifetime that is diminished by [the passing of] hours?!

فِي كُلِّ وَقْتٍ فَوْتٌ
In every moment there is loss

كُلُّ مَعْدُودٍ مُنْتَقَصٌ
Every denumerable thing can diminish

كُلُّ يَوْمٍ يَسُوقُ إِلَى غَدِهِ
Every day is driving towards its morrow

مَا انْقَضَتْ [مَا نَقَصَتْ] سَاعَةٌ مِنْ دَهْرِكَ إِلَّا بِقِطْعَةٍ مِنْ عُمُرِكَ
An hour of your time does not pass but that it cuts away a portion of your lifespan

مَا أَسْرَعَ السَّاعَاتِ فِي الْأَيَّامِ وَأَسْرَعَ الْأَيَّامَ فِي الشُّهُورِ وَأَسْرَعَ الشُّهُورَ فِي السَّنَةِ وَأَسْرَعَ السَّنَةَ فِي الْعُمُرِ
How quick the hours pass in the day and how fast the days pass in the month and how quick the months pass in the year and how fast the years pass in the lifetime!

مَعَ السَّاعَاتِ تَفْنَى الْآجَالُ
With the passing of hours, lifetimes perish

لَا بَقَاءَ لِلْأَعْمَارِ مَعَ تَعَاقُبِ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ
With the progression of days and nights, nothing remains of the lifetimes

لَا تَنْفَعُ الْعُدَّةُ إِذَا مَا انْقَضَتِ الْمُدَّةُ
Preparation does not benefit when the time has elapsed
