الْمُؤْمِنُ بِعَمَلِهِ
A believer is [gauged] by his actions

Action is the symbol [and an indication] of one’s interior

الْعَمَلُ شِعَارُ الْمُؤْمِنِ
Good action is the mark [and distinguishing quality] of the believer

الْعَمَلُ أَكْمَلُ خَلَفٍ
Good action is the most perfect legacy

الْعَمَلُ رَفِيقُ [رَفَقُ] الْمُوقِنِ
Good action is the [close] companion of the believer

الْمَرْءُ لَا يَصْحَبُهُ إِلَّا الْعَمَلُ
Nothing accompanies a person [to his grave] except [his] deeds

الْعَاقِلُ يَعْتَمِدُ عَلَى عَمَلِهِ الْجَاهِلُ يَعْتَمِدُ عَلَى أَمَلِهِ
The intelligent one relies on his [hard] work, [while] the ignorant one relies on his aspiration

الْإِيمَانُ وَالْعَمَلُ أَخَوَانِ تَوْأَمَانِ وَرَفِيقَانِ لَا يَفْتَرِقَانِ لَا يَقْبَلُ اللَّهُ أَحَدَهُمَا إِلَّا بِصَاحِبِهِ
Faith and knowledge (or action) are twin brothers and companions who do not part ways

اجْعَلْ رَفِيقَكَ عَمَلَكَ وَعَدُوَّكَ أَمَلَكَ
Make your [righteous] action your friend your [false] aspiration your enemy

اعْمَلُوا وَالْعَمَلُ يَنْفَعُ وَالدُّعَاءُ يُسْمَعُ وَالتَّوْبَةُ تُرْفَعُ
Perform good deeds while [you are in place where] deeds benefit, supplication is answered and repentance is raised [and accepted]

اعْمَلُوا وَأَنْتُمْ فِي آوِنَةِ الْبَقَاءِ وَالصُّحُفُ مَنْشُورَةٌ وَالتَّوْبَةُ مَبْسُوطَةٌ وَالْمُدْبِرُ يُدْعَى وَالْمُسِيءُ يُرْجَى قَبْلَ أَنْ يَخْمُدَ الْعَمَلُ [يحمد العمل] وَيَنْقَطِعَ الْمَهَلُ وَتَنْقَضِيَ الْمُدَّةُ وَيُسَدَّ بَابُ التَّوْبَةِ
Work while you are still alive, and while the books are [still] open, repentance is [still] accepted, the one who has strayed is [still] called [back], and the sinner is [still] given hope [of forgiveness]; before action abates, time expires, life ends and the door of repentance is closed

أَلَا فَاعْمَلُوا وَالْأَلْسُنُ مُطْلَقَةٌ وَالْأَبْدَانُ صَحِيحَةٌ وَالْأَعْضَاءُ لَدْنَةٌ وَالْمُنْقَلَبُ فَسِيحٌ وَالْمَجَالُ عَرِيضٌ قَبْلَ إِزْهَاقِ الْفَوْتِ وَحُلُولِ الْمَوْتِ فَحَقِّقُوا عَلَيْكُمْ حُلُولَهُ وَلَا تَنْتَظِرُوا قُدُومَهُ
Act now, while the tongues are free, the bodies are healthy, the limbs can be flexed, there is room for change and the area of movement is vast; before all this is lost and death comes – so be certain about its coming and do not wait for it to overtake you

أَلَا فَاعْمَلُوا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ وَالْخِنَاقُ مُهْمَلٌ وَالرُّوحُ مُرْسَلٌ فِي قِنْيَةِ [و في قنية] الْإِرْشَادِ وَرَاحَةِ الْأَجْسَادِ وَمَهَلِ الْبَقِيَّةِ وَأُنُفِ الْمَشِيَّةِ وَإِنْظَارِ التَّوْبَةِ وَانْفِسَاحِ الْحَوْبَةِ قَبْلَ الضَّنْكِ وَالْمَضِيقِ وَالرَّدْعِ وَالزُّهُوقِ قَبْلَ قُدُومِ الْغَائِبِ الْمُنْتَظَرِ وَإِخْذَةِ الْعَزِيزِ الْمُقْتَدِرِ
Take the initiative to perform good deeds [now] while the neck is free from the noose and the spirit is unfettered

إِنَّ مَاضِيَ يَوْمِكَ مُنْتَقِلٌ وَبَاقِيَهُ مُتَّهَمٌ فَاغْتَنِمْ وَقْتَكَ بِالْعَمَلِ
Verily that which has passed from your day has gone, and that which remains from it is not certain, so take advantage of your [present] time by performing [good] actions

إِنَّ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ يَعْمَلَانِ فِيكَ فَاعْمَلْ فِيهِمَا وَيَأْخُذَانِ مِنْكَ فَخُذْ مِنْهُمَا
Verily the night and day are working in you [by making you older] so work in them, and they are taking from you so take from them

إِنْ سَقِمَ فَهُوَ نَادِمٌ عَلَى تَرْكِ الْعَمَلِ وَإِنْ صَحَّ أَمِنَ مُغْتَرّاً فَأَخَّرَ الْعَمَلَ
He (‘a) said about the one whom he censured: If he falls sick he regrets having abandoned the work and if he is healthy, he feels secure and delays the workWhen he is called to cultivate for this world, he works and when he is called to cultivate for the Hereafter, he is lazyIf he becomes wealthy, he turns arrogant and falls into vice and if he becomes poor, he despairs and becomes weakIf a favour is done to him, he is ungrateful and if he does a favour, he lengthens it and makes it seem like [a great favour and] an obligationIf an evil deed presents itself to him, he commits it with the excuse of seeking repentance [for it later] but when he decides to repent, he delays it and persists in sinningIf he experiences wellbeing, he assumes that he has repentedIf he is distressed, he thinks [ill of Allah] and doubts [in Him]If he falls ill he devotes himself and turns repentantly [to Allah] but if he regains his health, he forgets and returns [to his evil ways] and becomes emboldened in his injustice towards the servants [of Allah]When he is secure, he is allured by the temptations of this world, so he forgets the Hereafter and is negligent of the Resurrection [on the Day of Judgment]

بَادِرُوا الْعَمَلَ وَأَكْذِبُوا الْأَمَلَ وَلَاحِظُوا الْأَجَلَ
Take the initiative to act, belie [false] hope and recall death

بَادِرُوا الْعَمَلَ وَخَافُوا بَغْتَةَ الْأَجَلِ تُدْرِكُوا أَفْضَلَ الْأَمَلِ
Reduce your hopes, fear the suddenness of death and hasten towards performing good deeds

بَادِرُوا بِالْعَمَلِ عُمُراً نَاكِساً
Hasten towards [virtuous] actions before old age disables you

بَادِرُوا بِالْعَمَلِ مَرَضاً حَابِساً وَمَوْتاً خَالِساً
Hasten towards [virtuous] actions before debilitating illness or sudden death [overtakes you]

بَادِرُوا أَعْمَالَكُمْ وَسَابِقُوا آجَالَكُمْ فَإِنَّكُمْ مَدِينُونَ بِمَا أَسْلَفْتُمْ وَمُجَازَوْنَ بِمَا قَدَّمْتُمْ وَمُطَالَبُونَ بِمَا خَلَّفْتُمْ
Hasten in performing your good deeds and compete with your deaths, for you will be compensated for what you sent forward, rewarded for what you did beforehand and held accountable for what you left behind

تَأْخِيرُ الْعَمَلِ عُنْوَانُ الْكَسَلِ
Delay in action is a symbol of laziness

دَلِيلُ أَصْلِ الْمَرْءِ فِعْلُهُ
The evidence of a person’s roots is his action

رَحِمَ اللَّهُ امْرَأً عَلِمَ أَنَّ نَفَسَهُ خُطَاهُ إِلَى أَجَلِهِ فَبَادَرَ عَمَلَهُ وَقَصَّرَ أَمَلَهُ
May the mercy of Allah be on the person who understands that his [every] breath brings him a step closer to his death, so he hastens to [do] good deeds and shortens his hopes

عَلَيْكَ بِإِدْمَانِ الْعَمَلِ فِي النَّشَاطِ وَالْكَسَلِ
You must persevere in your actions in times of activeness and laziness

فِي كُلِّ وَقْتٍ عَمَلٌ
In every instance there is an action [that should be performed]

مَنْ عَمِلَ اشْتَاقَ
One who works [for the Hereafter] yearns [for it]

مَنْ يَعْمَلْ يَزْدَدْ قُوَّةً
One who works increases in strength

مَا أَحْسَنَ مَنْ أَسَاءَ عَمَلَهُ
He who makes his actions evil has not done well

مَا أَصْدَقَ الْإِنْسَانَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَأَيُّ دَلِيلٍ عَلَيْهِ كَفِعْلِهِ
How truthful the human being is with his [own] soul and what better evidence [is there] of his nature is than his [own] action

يُسْتَدَلُّ عَلَى فَضْلِكَ بِعَمَلِكَ وَعَلَى كَرَمِكَ بِبَذْلِكَ
Your virtue is proven by your action and your munificence by your open-handedness

يُسْتَدَلُّ عَلَى خَيْرِ كُلِّ امْرِئٍ وَشَرِّهِ وَطَهَارَةِ أَصْلِهِ وَخُبْثِهِ بِمَا يَظْهَرُ مِنْ أَفْعَالِهِ
The good and evil of every person, and the purity or impurity of his origin is evinced by what he manifests of his actions

الْعَاقِلُ مَنْ أَحْرَزَ أَمْرَهُ
The intelligent person is one who safeguards his affair
