الزهد في الدنيا
اعْزُفْ [أَعْرِضْ] عَنْ دُنْيَاكَ تَسْعَدْ بِمُنْقَلَبِكَ وَتُصْلِحْ مَثْوَاكَ
Turn away from your [vain desires in this] world and you will be happy with your place of return [in the Hereafter] and will reform your [final] abode

انْظُرْ إِلَى الدُّنْيَا نَظَرَ الزَّاهِدِ الْمُفَارِقِ وَلَا تَنْظُرْ إِلَيْهَا نَظَرَ الْعَاشِقِ الْوَامِقِ
Look at the world with the eyes of the abstinent, parting one and do not look at it with the eyes of the adoring, attached one

ازْهَدْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَاعْزُفْ عَنْهَا وَإِيَّاكَ أَنْ يَنْزِلَ بِكَ الْمَوْتُ وَأَنْتَ آبِقٌ [أبقى] مِنْ رَبِّكَ فِي طَلَبِهَا فَتَشْقَى
Renounce the pleasures of this world and turn away from it, and be careful that death does not descend upon youwhile you are a runaway from your Lord in its pursuit thereby becoming wretched

ازْهَدْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَاعْزُفْ عَنْهَا وَإِيَّاكَ أَنْ يَنْزِلَ بِكَ الْمَوْتُ وَقَلْبُكَ مُتَعَلِّقٌ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْهَا فَتَهْلِكَ
Renounce the pleasures of this world and turn away from it, and be careful that death does not descend upon you while your heart is attached to anything of it as a result of which you are destroyed

انْظُرُوا إِلَى الدُّنْيَا نَظَرَ الزَّاهِدِينَ فِيهَا الصَّارِفِينَ عَنْهَا فَإِنَّهَا وَاللَّهِ عَمَّا قَلِيلٍ تُزِيلُ الثَّاوِيَ السَّاكِنَ وَتَفْجَعُ الْمُتْرَفَ الْآمِنَ
Look at this world as those who are uninterested in it would look at it, having diverted themselves from it, for it will, by Allah, shortly turn out its inhabitants and cause grief to the one who is living in luxury and the one who feels safe

أَلَا وَإِنَّ الدُّنْيَا دَارٌ لَا يُسْلَمُ مِنْهَا إِلَّا بِالزُّهْدِ فِيهَا وَلَا يُنْجَى مِنْهَا بِشَيْءٍ كَانَ لَهَا [وَ لَا يُنْجَى بِشَيْءٍ مِنْهَا]
Verily this world is an abode where no one remains safe except by renouncing its pleasures and none is saved from it by anything that is part of it

أَ يَسُرُّكَ أَنْ تَلْقَى اللَّهَ غَداً فِي الْقِيَامَةِ وَهُوَ عَلَيْكَ رَاضٍ غَيْرَ غَضْبَانَ كُنْ فِي الدُّنْيَا زَاهِداً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ رَاغِباً وَعَلَيْكَ بِالتَّقْوَى وَالصِّدْقِ فَهُمَا جِمَاعُ الدِّينِ وَالْزَمْ أَهْلَ الْحَقِّ وَاعْمَلْ عَمَلَهُمْ تَكُنْ مِنْهُمْ
Would you be happy to meet Allah tomorrow on the Day of Resurrection while He is pleased with you and not angry? Then be indifferent to [the pleasures of] this world and desirous of the HereafterAnd adopt God-wariness and honesty, for these are the consolidators of faithAnd accompany the people of truth and emulate their actions you will become one of them

إِنَّكَ لَمْ تُخْلَقَ لِلدُّنْيَا فَازْهَدْ فِيهَا وَأَعْرِضْ عَنْهَا
Verily you have not been created for this world, so renounce it and turn away from it

إِذَا فَاتَكَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا شَيْءٌ فَلَا تَحْزَنْ وَإِذَا أَحْسَنْتَ فَلَا تَمْنُنْ
When something of this world slips away from you then do not despair, and when you do good, do not put others under obligation

إِذَا أَعْرَضْتَ عَنْ دَارِ الْفَنَاءِ وَتَوَلَّهْتَ بِدَارِ الْبَقَاءِ فَقَدْ فَازَ قِدْحُكَ وَفُتِحَتْ لَكَ أَبْوَابُ النَّجَاحِ وَظَفِرْتَ بِالْفَلَاحِ
When you turn away from the transitory world and become occupied with the permanent abode, then your arrow has indeed hit its mark, the doors of prosperity are opened for you and you have attained success

زُهْدُكَ فِي الدُّنْيَا يُنْجِيكَ وَرَغْبَتُكَ فِيهَا تُرْدِيكَ
Your renunciation of this world will save you and your desire for it will cause you to fall into destruction

طُوبَى لِلزَّاهِدِينَ فِي الدُّنْيَا الرَّاغِبِينَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ أُولَئِكَ اتَّخَذُوا الْأَرْضَ بِسَاطاً وَتُرَابَهَا فِرَاشاً وَمَاءَهَا طِيباً وَالْقُرْآنَ شِعَاراً وَالدُّعَاءَ دِثَاراً وَقَرَضُوا الدُّنْيَا عَلَى مِنْهَاجِ الْمَسِيحِ عِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ عَلَى نَبِيِّنَا وَعَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ
Blessed be the ones who renounce pleasures in the world and desire the [bounties of the] HereafterThese are the ones who have taken the earth as their carpet, its dust as their beds, its water as their perfume, the Qur’an as their inner garment and supplication as their outer garment, and have subscribed themselves to the ways of the Messiah, Isa son of Maryam (‘a)

فِي الْعُزُوفِ عَنِ الدُّنْيَا دَرْكُ النَّجَاحِ
In being averse to this world there is attainment of prosperity

كُونُوا مِمَّنْ عَرَفَ فَنَاءَ الدُّنْيَا فَزَهِدَ فِيهَا وَعَلِمَ بَقَاءَ الْآخِرَةِ فَعَمِلَ لَهَا
Be among those who recognize the transience of this world so they renounce it and know about the eternity of the Hereafter so they work for it

مَنْ عَرَفَ الدُّنْيَا تَزَهَّدَ
One who knows [the reality of] this world, renounces it

مَنْ أَيْقَنَ بِمَا يَبْقَى زَهِدَ فِيمَا يَفْنَى
One who is certain about the everlasting is uninterested in that which perishes

مَنْ عَزَفَ عَنِ الدُّنْيَا أَتَتْهُ صَاغِرَةً
Whoever turns away from this world, it comes to him belittled

يَنْبَغِي لِمَنْ عَلِمَ سُرْعَةَ زَوَالِ الدُّنْيَا أَنْ يَزْهَدَ فِيهَا
It behoves the one who knows how fleeting this world is, to renounce its pleasures

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ازْهَدُوا فِي الدُّنْيَا فَإِنَّ عَيْشَهَا قَصِيرٌ وَخَيْرَهَا يَسِيرٌ وَإِنَّهَا لَدَارُ شُخُوصٍ وَمَحَلَّةُ تَنْغِيصٍ وَإِنَّهَا لَتُدْنِي الْآجَالَ وَتَقْطَعُ الْآمَالَ أَلَا وَهِيَ الْمُتَصَدِّيَةُ الْعَنُونُ وَالْجَامِحَةُ الْحَرُونُ وَالْمَانِيَةُ الْخَئُونُ
people! Renounce the pleasures of this world, for indeed its life is short and its goodness is insignificantIt is a house of [inevitable] departure a place of discomfortIt brings closer the appointed terms and cuts short aspirationsIndeed it turns away and shuns [those who are after it], it is unruly and stubborn, it cheats and betrays

الدُّنْيَا دُوَلٌ فَأَجْمِلْ فِي طَلَبِهَا وَاصْطَبِرْ [وَ اصْبِرْ] حَتَّى تَأْتِيَكَ دَوْلَتُكَ
This world takes turns, so be moderate in seeking it, and be patient until your turn comes to you

هَوِّنْ عَلَيْكَ فَإِنَّ الْأَمْرَ قَرِيبٌ وَالِاصْطِحَابَ قَلِيلٌ وَالْمُقَامَ يَسِيرٌ
Take it easy, for indeed the matter is near, the companionship is short and the sojourn is brief
