ما يوجب الضلالة
بِالْعُدُولِ عَنِ الْحَقِّ تَكُونُ الضَّلَالَةُ
It is by turning away from the truth that misguidance comes about

رُبَّ مَعْرِفَةٍ أَدَّتْ إِلَى تَضْلِيلٍ
Many a cognizance leads to misguidance

رُبَّ عِلْمٍ أَدَّى إِلَى مَضَلَّتِكَ
The alms-tax of knowledge is its dissemination

ضَلَّ مَنِ اهْتَدَى بِغَيْرِ هُدَى اللَّهِ
He who takes guidance from other than the guidance of Allah has gone astray

ضَاعَ مَنْ كَانَ لَهُ مَقْصَدٌ غَيْرُ اللَّهِ
Lost is the one who has a goal other than Allah

ضَلَالُ النُّفُوسِ بَيْنَ دَوَاعِي الشَّهْوَةِ وَالْغَضَبِ
The misguidance of souls is between the impulses of lust and anger

كَمْ مِنْ ضَلَالَةٍ زُخْرِفَتْ بِآيَةٍ مِنْ كِتَابِ اللَّهِ كَمَا يُزَخْرَفُ الدِّرْهَمُ النُّحَاسُ بِالْفِضَّةِ الْمُمَوِّهَةِ
How many a deviation has been embellished by a verse from the Book of Allah just as a bronze dirham is embellished by a coat of silver

لَنْ يَضِلَّ الْمَرْءُ حَتَّى يَغْلِبَ شَكُّهُ يَقِينَهُ
A person will never go astray until his doubt overcomes his certainty

مَنِ اسْتَرْشَدَ غَوِيّاً ضَلَّ
One who seeks right guidance from the deviated, goes astray

مَنْ جَارَ [جَازَ] عَنِ الصِّدْقِ ضَاقَ مَذْهَبُهُ
Whoever turns aside from truth, his path becomes narrow

مَنِ اهْتَدَى بِغَيْرِ هُدَى اللَّهِ سُبْحَانَهُ ضَلَّ
He who takes guidance from other than the guidance of Allah, the Glorified, has gone astray

مَنْ يَطْلُبُ الْهِدَايَةَ مِنْ غَيْرِ أَهْلِهَا يَضِلُّ
One who seeks guidance from those who do not possess it is led astray

مَنِ اسْتَهْدَى الْغَاوِيَ عَمِيَ عَنْ نَهْجِ الْهُدَى
One who seeks guidance from the misguided becomes blinded to the course of true guidance

مَنْ عَدَلَ عَنْ وَاضِحِ الْمَسَالِكِ سَلَكَ سُبُلَ الْمَهَالِكِ
One who deviates from the clear tracks ends up following the courses of destruction

مَنْ زَلَّ عَنْ مَحَجَّةِ الطَّرِيقِ وَقَعَ فِي حَيْرَةِ الْمَضِيقِ
One who slips from the highway of the course falls into the perplexity of narrowness

مَنَ عَدَلَ عَنْ وَاضِحِ الْمَحَجَّةِ [الْحُجَّةِ] غَرِقَ فِي اللُّجَّةِ
One who deviates from the clear highway drowns in the depths of the sea

أَيْنَ تَضِلُّ عُقُولُكُمْ وَتَزِيغُ نُفُوسُكُمْ أَ تَسْتَبْدِلُونَ الْكَذِبَ بِالصِّدْقِ وَتَعْتَاضُونَ الْبَاطِلَ بِالْحَقِّ
Where are your minds straying and your souls deviating [to]? Do you seek to substitute facts for lies and exchange truth for falsehood?

For every deviation there is a cause
