The person who is most learned about Allah is he who asks from Him the most
أَعْلَمُ النَّاسِ بِاللَّهِ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَهُ مَسْأَلَةً

Verily Allah, the Glorified, has wraths and chastisements, so if [any of] it descends upon you, repel it with supplication; for indeed nothing can repel tribulation except supplication
إِنَّ لِلَّهِ سُبْحَانَهُ سَطَوَاتٍ وَنَقِمَاتٍ فَإِذَا نَزَلَتْ [أُنْزِلَتْ] بِكُمْ فَادْفَعُوهَا بِالدُّعَاءِ فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَدْفَعُ الْبَلَاءَ إِلَّا الدُّعَاءُ

When you embark on something, seek what is best from it
إِذَا أَمْضَيْتَ فَاسْتَخِرْ

Through supplication, tribulations are repelled
بِالدُّعَاءِ يُسْتَدْفَعُ الْبَلَاءُ

Whoever asks Allah, He grants to him
مَنْ سَأَلَ اللَّهَ أَعْطَاهُ

Whoever seeks permission from Allah, He grants it [to him]
مَنِ اسْتَأْذَنَ عَلَى اللَّهِ أَذِنَ لَهُ

There is nothing more beloved to Allah, the Glorified, than being beseeched
مَا مِنْ شَيْءٍ أَحَبَّ إِلَى اللَّهِ سُبْحَانَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يُسْأَلَ

The one who is afflicted by severe tribulation is no more in need of supplication than the one who is doing well but is not secure from tribulations
مَا الْمُبْتَلَى الَّذِي قَدِ اشْتَدَّ بِهِ الْبَلَاءُ أَحْوَجَ إِلَى الدُّعَاءِ مِنَ الْمُعَافَى الَّذِي لَا يَأْمَنُ الْبَلَاءَ

The most incapable of all people is the one who is unable to supplicate
أَعْجَزُ النَّاسِ مَنْ عَجَزَ عَنِ الدُّعَاءِ

Supplication is the weapon of the close friends [of Allah]

The weapon of a believer is supplication

نِعْمَ السِّلَاحُ الدُّعَاءُ

Supplication for a beggar is one of the two charities [that one can give]
الدُّعَاءُ لِلسَّائِلِ إِحْدَى الصَّدَقَتَيْنِ

Ask Allah for forgiveness, well-being and good success [in carrying out His ordinances]
سَلُوا اللَّهَ الْعَفْوَ وَالْعَافِيَةَ وَحُسْنَ التَّوْفِيقِ

We ask Allah, the Glorified, for [our inclusion in] the ranks of the martyrs, the fellowship of the felicitous and the company of the Prophets and the virtuous ones
نَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ سُبْحَانَهُ مَنَازِلَ الشُّهَدَاءِ وَمُعَايَشَةَ السُّعَدَاءِ وَمُرَافَقَةَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ وَالْأَبْرَارِ

One who is given the [opportunity of] supplication will not be deprived of the response
مَنْ أُعْطِيَ الدُّعَاءَ لَمْ يُحْرَمِ الْإِجَابَةَ

Whoever knocks on the door of Allah, it is opened for him
مَنْ قَرَعَ بَابَ اللَّهِ فُتِحَ لَهُ

Whoever calls upon [and supplicates to] Allah, He answers him
مَنْ دَعَا اللَّهَ أَجَابَهُ

The intercessor is the wing of the seeker [which helps him attain what he seeks]
الشَّفِيعُ جَنَاحُ الطَّالِبِ

The sincere one is worthy of getting [his prayers] answered
الْمُخْلِصُ حَرِيٌّ بِالْإِجَابَةِ

Make your supplication sincere, for this makes it more worthy of a response
عَلَيْكَ بِإِخْلَاصِ الدُّعَاءِ فَإِنَّهُ أَخْلَقُ بِالْإِجَابَةِ

When you have any need [that you wish for] from Allah, the Glorified, then start by sending salutations on the Prophet (s) and then ask Allah for your need, for Allah, the Most High, is too generous to fulfil one of the two supplications that are made to Him and refuse the other
إِذَا كَانَتْ لَكَ إِلَى اللَّهِ سُبْحَانَهُ حَاجَةٌ فَابْدَأْ بِالصَّلَاةِ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ص ثُمَّ اسْأَلِ اللَّهَ حَاجَتَكَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى أَكْرَمُ مِنْ أَنْ يُسْأَلَ حَاجَتَيْنِ فَيَقْضِيَ إِحْدَاهُمَا وَيَمْنَعَ الْأُخْرَى

One who asks properly is aided
مَنْ أَحْسَنَ الْمَسْأَلَةَ أُسْعِفَ

One who continues knocking the door insistently [eventually] enters through it
مَنِ اسْتَدَامَ قَرْعَ الْبَابِ وَلَجَّ وَلَجَ

How good a supporter of supplication submissiveness!
نِعْمَ عَوْنُ الدُّعَاءِ الْخُشُوعُ

The most piercing arrow is the supplication of the oppressed
أَنْفَذُ السِّهَامِ دَعْوَةُ الْمَظْلُومِ

Verily the cry of the oppressed is answered by Allah, the Glorified, because he is asking for his right, and Allah is far greater than that He should deny a person his right
إِنَّ دَعْوَةَ الْمَظْلُومِ مُجَابَةٌ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ سُبْحَانَهُ لِأَنَّهُ يَطْلُبُ حَقَّهُ وَاللَّهُ تَعَالَى أَعْدَلُ [مِنْ] أَنْ يَمْنَعَ ذَا حَقٍّ حَقَّهُ

There is no good in secret conversation except for two people: the articulating scholar or the cautious listener [who can keep secrets]
لَا خَيْرَ فِي الْمُنَاجَاةِ إِلَّا لِرَجُلَيْنِ عَالِمٌ نَاطِقٌ أَوْ مُسْتَمِعٌ وَاعٍ

Not every supplication is answered
لَيْسَ كُلُّ دُعَاءٍ يُجَابُ

The kindness of Allah does not annul His wisdom; it is for this reason that not all supplications are answered
إِنَّ كَرَمَ اللَّهِ سُبْحَانَهُ لَا يَنْقُضُ حِكْمَتَهُ فَلِذَلِكَ لَا يَقَعُ [لَا تَقَعُ] الْإِجَابَةُ فِي كُلِّ دَعْوَةٍ

Sometimes you may ask for something but you are not granted it, rather you are given [something] better than it
رُبَّمَا سَأَلْتَ الشَّيْءَ فَلَمْ تُعْطَهُ وَأُعْطِيتَ خَيْراً مِنْهُ

Sin prevents the one’s supplication from being answered
الْمَعْصِيَةُ تَمْنَعُ الْإِجَابَةَ

The one who supplicates without action is like a bow without a bowstring
الدَّاعِي بِلَا عَمَلٍ كَالْقَوْسِ بِلَا وَتَرٍ

Do not reckon that your supplication is being answered [too] slowly while you have obstructed its path with [your] sins
لَا تَسْتَبْطِئْ إِجَابَةَ دُعَائِكَ وَقَدْ سَدَدْتَ طَرِيقَهُ بِالذُّنُوبِ

Never get disheartened by a delayed answer to [your] supplication, for indeed that which is granted is commensurate with the intention, and sometimes the answer might be delayed so that it may result in a greater reward for the seeker and a more bountiful grant for the recipient
لَا يُقَنِّطَنَّكَ تَأْخِيرَ إِجَابَةِ الدُّعَاءِ فَإِنَّ الْعَطِيَّةَ عَلَى قَدْرِ النِّيَّةِ وَرُبَّمَا تَأَخَّرَتِ الْإِجَابَةُ لِيَكُونَ ذَلِكَ أَعْظَمَ لِأَجْرِ السَّائِلِ وَأَجْزَلَ لِعَطَاءِ النَّائِلِ

Favour is gained in the sight of the Creator by yearning for that which is with Him; favour is gained with the creatures by turning away from what they possess
الْخُطْوَةُ عِنْدَ الْخَالِقِ بِالرَّغْبَةِ فِيمَا لَدَيْهِ الْخُطْوَةُ عِنْدَ الْمَخْلُوقِ بِالرَّغْبَةِ عَمَّا فِي يَدَيْهِ

Verily, if you have hope in Allah you will attain your hopes, but if you have hope in other than Allah then your hopes and aspirations will be frustrated
إِنَّكُمْ إِنْ رَجَوْتُمُ اللَّهَ بَلَغْتُمْ آمَالَكُمْ وَإِنْ رَجَوْتُمْ غَيْرَ اللَّهِ خَابَتْ أَمَانِيُّكُمْ وَآمَالُكُمْ

Your Lord, the Glorified, called you but you turned away and fled, and Satan called you so you responded and drew closer [to him]
دَعَاكُمْ رَبُّكُمْ سُبْحَانَهُ فَنَفَرْتُمْ وَوَلَّيْتُمْ وَدَعَاكُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ فَاسْتَجَبْتُمْ وَأَقْبَلْتُمْ

One who increases his requests from people is humiliated
مَنْ أَكْثَرَ مَسْأَلَةَ النَّاسِ ذَلَّ

Whoever protects himself from asking others becomes exalted
مَنْ صَانَ نَفْسَهُ عَنِ الْمَسَائِلِ جَلَّ

Whoever asks [from] other than Allah deserves to be deprived
مَنْ سَأَلَ غَيْرَ اللَّهِ اسْتَحَقَّ الْحِرْمَانَ

Do not ask [from anyone] other than Allah, the Glorified, for indeed if He grants [your wishes to] you, He honours you [at the same time] and if He withholds from you, He does it for your own welfare [and benefit]
لَا تَسْأَلُوا إِلَّا اللَّهَ سُبْحَانَهُ فَإِنَّهُ إِنْ أَعْطَاكُمْ أَكْرَمَكُمْ وَإِنْ مَنَعَكُمْ خَارَ لَكُمْ
